The international conference "Russia and Europe: Actual Problems of Modern International Journalism"

For the first time, the Leningrad region is hosting the annual international conference “Russia and Europe: current problems of modern international journalism.” The conference will take place on October 6, 2023 in Vyborg, it will continue a continuous series of international events that have been held since 2011 in different cities around the world. This year, the conference participants will focus on the problems and prospects of international journalism in a situation of tense relations between Russia and Europe.
The conference traditionally arouses great interest in the expert community and diplomatic circles, and has a noticeable resonance in the media in Russia and abroad. This is one of the largest events in the field of civil diplomacy, the importance of which has been repeatedly emphasized by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The purpose of the conference is to promote the formation of a positive dialogue between government officials, diplomats, politicians, heads of large public organizations and the world media.
Leading Russian and foreign media experts, representatives of the media and international public organizations, diplomatic departments and institutions are taking part in the XII International Conference “Russia and Europe: Current Issues of Modern International Journalism”. During the plenary session and three thematic sessions, pressing, multifaceted issues will be discussed. The topic of the plenary session: “International journalism in traditional media and new media in the context of tense relations between Russia and Europe: challenges and prospects.”
Topics of the sessions of the XII International Conference in Vyborg: “Overcoming “double standards” when covering the position of Russia and the attitude towards the revival of Nazism in European journalism”, “The presence and absence of contact between cross-border journalists of Russia and Europe on new media platforms”, “Dynamics of changes in coverage of special military operations by Russian and European journalists.” The organizer of the event in 2023 is the Institute of Contemporary State Development, the federal customer is the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation.
XII International conference "Russia and Europe: Actual Problems of Modern International Journalism": The conference will be held on October 6 from 10.00 to 18.00 (Moscow time) in the city of Vyborg, at the address: Victoria Hotel - Embankment of the 40th Anniversary of the Komsomol, 1, Tchaikovsky Hall.

The international conference “Russia and Europe: Actual Problems of Modern International Journalism"” has been held since 2011 in different countries of the world. The conference was hosted in different years by Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Madrid, Budapest, Bratislava and other cities. The tenth anniversary conference was held for the first time in Russia, in Kaliningrad. The event is traditionally attended by heads of Russian and foreign media, politicians, diplomats, scientists, political scientists, and management of international companies. Delegates invariably noted the importance of dialogue and active interaction between Russian and European media in the interests of their audiences, finding common ground, and combating attempts to distort information. The words from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s greeting to the participants of the VIII International Conference “Russia and Europe: Actual Problems of Modern International Journalism" in Rome remain relevant:
“The key to success is the willingness of journalists to work highly professionally, including maintaining impartiality and respecting an alternative point of view.” This is especially important in the current situation of international tension and acute contradictions, which are affecting the work of both traditional media and new media.
